Decomplexation of Cu-EDTA by UV/PS was investigated for the first time.

UV/PS is more efficient than UV/H2O2 in decomplexation of Cu-complexes.

Self-catalysis of the formed intermediates was observed.

Degradation mechanism was proposed for both oxidation processes.

UV/PS-precipitation process is very effective in treatment of electroplating effluent.
