Laser versus conventional sintering of CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) was here investigated.
The former allows synthesizing not only dense but also fine-grained microstructures.
Incidence of CuO, Cu2O and TiO2 traces is found toward higher sintering conditions.
Unlike conventional sintering, laser processing inhibits Cu+ re-oxidation to Cu2+.
Laser sintering is efficient in producing high-permittivity and low-loss CCTO bodies.
