Bread wheat and two-row barley were compared under different environments. Both species showed similar performances. Different physiological strategies between species were observed for determining grain number. Two-row barley focused on tillering capacity and bread wheat on iPAR accumulation. Reductions in grain weight associated with increases in night and high temperatures due late sowings were observed in both species.
