Run-in periods show similar trends at both macro- and microscale experiments. Friction evolution at the macroscale is dominated by third-bodies (debris) in the contact. At both scales, friction depends on applied load and decreases with increasing applied load. At the macroscale, third-body abrasion through debris creation is the dominant wear mechanisms. At the microscale, wear is negligible and no conclusions regarding wear mechanisms can be drawn.
