Spectroscopic and crystal field studies of the SrAl2O4:Eu2+ phosphor is reported. Crystal field splitting of the Eu2+ 5d states is evaluated within the exchange charge model. Vibronic model is proposed to qualitatively explain the temperature dependence of the emission intensities in the SrAl2O4:Eu2+ phosphor comprising two types of Eu2+ centers.
