Bowtie analysis framework based on fuzzy set theory is proposed to road traffic safety. Case studies demonstrate the application of bowtie to accident occurrence and consequences. Approach could be used to estimate the effects of safety-related cooperative intelligent transport systems – both proactive and reactive.
