Butyric acid inhibits cell divisions of normal human gingival fibroblasts. Long-term exposure to butyric acid induces apoptosis in normal gingival fibroblasts. Butyric acid upregulates TNF-α production of normal human gingival fibroblasts. Neutralizing TNF-α suppresses caspase 8 activity of fibroblasts.
