A label-free, lifetime-sensitive fluorescence anisotropy strategy was reported. It allowed the FA monitoring of the ligand binding to short DNA molecules. Diverse intercalator displacement assays and biosensors were elaborated. The wide applicability of the approach was demonstrated.
