Particle formation mechanisms in SiO2-containing miniemulsions stabilized with sodium dodecyl sulfate were proposed. Plain polymer particles, polymer/SiO2 nanocomposite particles, and polymer/SiO2 aggregates were present in the emulsions. Plain polymer particles dominated in the emulsions. Formation efficiency of polymer/SiO2 nanocomposite particles was improved with increased sonication power.
