The aim of this study was to investigate the connection between preradiotherapy dental extractions and self-reported health-related QoL.

Study Design

Retrospective data on patients treated with radiotherapy for oropharyngeal cancer were pooled with the results of a cross-sectional survey.

Results

Greater than eight preradiotherapy dental extractions, p16 negative status, female gender, and positive smoking status were associated with statistically significant reduced QoL.

Conclusions

Preradiotherapy dental extractions do not result in improved QoL and, in fact, may worsen it.
