A plate, wedge and splitter target are used to characterize the main impact forces. The momentum balance is the key to predict the forces. Gelatine and real birds generate similar impact forces. The wedge can be used to assess the performance of numerical material models. The residual energy of the bird after impact can be measured with a rigid plate.
