Otolith microstructure has been analyzed through sagittal and transversal sections of black hake otoliths.
From juvenile and adult black hake otoliths, daily increments have been counted and measured from birth to death.
Black hakes are fast growing species, reaching 36.7 cm in the first year.
Different growth strategies are here supported, even though results point to similar growth models.
Otolith microstructure analysis may be a realistic choice to regularly age hakes.
