We explored the effects of glucose availability and insulin on sickness intensity. Glucose deprivation enhanced sickness-induced hypothermia. Insulin attenuated sickness-induced body mass loss in animals of greater body mass. Insulin resulted in severe sickness in animals with lower body masses. Glucose and insulin modulate sickness but effects differ among symptoms and context.
