HTL induces non-native, apoptotically competent species with exposed heme in cyt c. Modification leads to reduction of heme iron. Results in activation of peroxidase function required for cardiolipin oxidation. The study highlights importance of HTL-modified cyt c in eliciting Hcy toxicity.
