Neurophysiological differences between intrinsic and extrinsic insight are examined. Intrinsic insights are preceded by a right parietal alpha power increase. Extrinsic insights are preceded by a right parietal alpha power decrease. Both insight subtypes differ on the behavioral and the neurophysiological level. Both subtypes may involve opposed attentional and/or inhibitory processes.
