Pitted cobbles discovered for the first time from the mid-Holocene sites of Indian sub-continent.

Number of pits per cobble varies from one to nine.

Pits seem to be utility oriented and not resulting from any utilization.

Pits have been replicated on an unused cobble by beating and grinding with a nosed small cobble.

Though their functions are not clearly understood, some uses are however suggested.
