Punished ethanol self-administration produces suppression of seeking in subsequent sessions in BALB/cJ and 129S1/SvImJ mice. In C57BL/6J (B6) mice, punishment-induced suppression of ethanol seeking is context dependent. DBA/2J (D2) mice are insensitive to punishment during ethanol seeking regardless of context. B6, but not D2 reduce self-administration when ethanol is devalued with a bitter-tastant. Current findings suggest that D2 may exhibit heightened compulsive-like self-administration of ethanol.
