Modification of carbon nanotubes supported Ru catalysts were prepared, nature of acidic or basic sites of functional groups played crucial role. With nitrogen doping to carbon nanotubes, the activity of Ru was improved in sorbitol hydrogenolysis. All the alkali hydroxide promoters significantly enhanced the sorbitol conversion, while NaOH promoter gave the highest conversion and glycol yields.
