文摘

Active photosynthetic apparatus was found in under-soil hypocotyl regions of bean.

This was adapted to low-light, piped down by the hollow above-soil shoot.

Its chlorophyll-protein complexes were similar to those of green leaves.

A PIP-type aquaporin was identified in the thylakoids of the under-soil plastids.
