HIF-1α seems to prevent a greater reduction of ER-α expression in ER-positive breast cancer cells. A HIF-1α kd resulted in an increase in ER-β and a decrease in ER-α expression in hypoxia. MCF-7 lt cells lost part of their ability to respond to hypoxia with estrogen receptors expression level modifications.
