Submerged plants mitigated the toxicity of highly hydrophobic insecticides. Plants also mitigated insecticides that are susceptible to alkaline hydrolysis. Plants had no effect on insecticides possessing neither of these characteristics. Our results can help predict when plants will mitigate insecticide toxicity.
