Chronic treatment with NaF promoted insulin resistance and decreased insulin signal. NaF treatment caused changes in bone metabolism markers in ovariectomized (OVX) rats. NaF treatment promoted decreased trabecular bone area of the tibia in OVX rats. NaF treatment promoted increased plasma levels of insulin, OCN and TNF-α in OVX rats. Data suggest the need for caution in the use of NaF for the treatment of osteoporosis.
