Realistic round-trip-efficiencies are in range of 50–60% for different power plants. Efficient heat pumps are realizable at 300–600 °C and moderate internal recuperation. Trans-critical heat pumps are not generally superior to super-critical processes. Operation of heat pumps and electric heaters in series connection is promising.
