I examine the role of voluntary disclosure programs in creating incentives for competing firms to invest in clean technology. Voluntary disclosure programs allow firms to communicate success in achieving clean technology through investment with uncertain outcome. Such programs increase the ex ante strategic investment incentives even without green consumers. Such programs increase the effectiveness of traditional forms of environmental regulation.
