The novel isoxazoline, sarolaner, was designed in Zoetis research laboratories, specifically for use in companion animals.

Sarolaner, the chirally pure S-enantiomer, was selected to minimize potential off target effects.

No adverse health effects were observed in dogs ≥ 8 weeks of age up to 20 mg/kg with repeated monthly doses.

Robust efficacy (> 99%) was demonstrated against fleas and ticks for at least one month from a single oral dose of between 1.25 and 5 mg/kg.
