Hierarchical porous silica (HPS) was made using a natural rubber (NR) template.

The pH of production strongly influenced the properties of HPS adsorbent.

Calcination proved to be most effective for template removal.

The HPS morphology was not damaged by calcination.

The source of NR latex (one or multiple plantations) barely affected the HPS.
