We apply noise to a model of network synchronisation between competing populations. Noise is applied separately to zero and normal modes with respect to the Laplacian. Quite different dynamical behaviours follow, related to ratchet potential theory. Solutions to the Fokker–Planck equation in the linearised system agree with numerics.
