Many older farmers struggle to find a successor, average farmer age in Europe increases. Older farmers without a successor tend to be less productive and less open to actively engage in environmental practices. The majority of older farmers without successor prefers to continue to farm at low intensity. New ways of succession are needed to decrease average farmer age and ensure sustainable growth and innovation.
