For many regions long term, high quality, high-temporal resolution rainfall data is not available. Here we create a series of synthetic rainfall data sets using a statistical method. The data is employed in a computer based Landscape Evolution Model. The model results demonstrate that rainfall amount and intensity greatly influences soil erosion. The method provides a rigorous statistical approach to quantify sediment transport and erosion.
