Ionomycin, a calcineurin activator, could attenuate l-DOPA-induced dyskinesia (LID) in hemiparkinsonian rats. Ionomycin downregulates ΔFosB and p-ERK that are markers of LID and the levels of DARPP-32 phosphorylated at Thr-34. Ionomycin reduces the phosphorylation level of p-NMDAR1 (ser896), p-NMDAR2A (Y1325) and p-NMDAR2B (Y1472). Both dopamine and glutamate signaling pathways play significant roles in the mechanisms of LID.
