A xylose isomerase-based S. cerevisiae, SXA-R2P-E, was used for ethanol fermentation.
High ethanol yield (0.44 g/g) was achieved in cofermentation of glucose and xylose.
SXA-R2P-E fermented lignocellulosic hydrolysates with ethanol yields of 0.43–0.46 g/g.
A highly promising potential of a xylose isomerase expressing strain was demonstrated.
