Polyphenols from Sambucus nigra L. extract were used to functionalize the gold nanoparticles. NPs diminishes hepatic inflammation and oxidative stress induced by hyperglycemia. NPs reduced the MMP-2 activity and the proportion of Kupffer cells in liver. NPs present a great potential for further usage as adjuvants in diabetes.
