Floral homeotic mutant (PS-1) in opium poppy reported with modified third whorl. Carpeloid stamens, cleistogamy and early flowering reported in the OM mutant. Carpeloid stamens in OM mutant functionally resemble capsule wall. Genetic divergence study grouped 28 opium poppy accessions into 6 clusters. Parents from clusters II and V are predicted to produce desirable recombinants.
