Previous studies have never used inertia friction welding technology to produce Al-Mg joints. The thickness of intermetallic compounds interlays consisted of Mg17Al12 and Al3Mg2 is only several μm. The tensile strength of joints largely lies on the characteristic of intermetallic compounds interlayers at the interface. With increasing friction pressure the tensile strength of the joints increased remarkably. The maximum tensile strength of the joints can reach up to 96 MPa.
