The authors describe a peculiar change in the epidermis above anogenital melanocytic nevi histopathologically imitating differentiated squamous intraepithelial lesion (dSIL). The aim of this study is to familiarize the pathologists with this pitfall to avoid its possible overdiagnosis as dysplasia. In contrast to authentic dSIL, the atypical parts do not show abnormal p53 staining. Such dSIL-like alterations seem to have no malignant potential.
