Ultrananocrystalline diamond (UNCD) integration with PyC components of mechanical heart valves has been reported.

Carbide bonding, graphite and film stress minimization, and CTE compensation between PyC and UNCD have been developed.

UNCD on PyC passed aggressive scratch test with a load up to 100 N and exhibited robust protection on the PyC substrate.

Thrombin generation experiment suggests that UNCD surface seems to be “invisible” to the interacted fresh human platelets.
