Phytase inclusions of 500 and 2000 FTU/kg in maize-based broiler diets impact on growth performance, nutrient utilisation, digestive dynamics of starch, protein (N), sodium and IP6 phytate degradation in the gizzard and four small intestinal segments

Phytase degraded IP6 phytate by >90% in the gizzard. Phytate degradation in the gizzard was related to performance. Phytase increased recovery of sodium along the small intestine. Sodium digestibility coefficients were positively correlated to starch digestibilities. Sodium digestibility coefficients were positively correlated to protein digestibilities.
