The formation of bimodal multilayered grain structure and its effect on the mechanical properties of powder metallurgy pure titanium

A multilayered structure was observed in powder metallurgy pure Ti, where fine and coarse grain layers were distinguishable. The combination of non-uniform deformation and dynamic recrystallization may be the reason of forming such unique structure. Mechanical tests indicate that the multilayer structure greatly improves the yield strength of pure Ti. The results show that, by suppressing deformation twins, the fine grain layer serves as the main crack initiator.
