Mouse models of hearing, acquired loss, and deafness studied at 1, 3, and 6 months. Endbulbs and bushy cells developed normally to 1 month of age. Hearing loss led to subsequent atrophy of endbulbs of Held and bushy cells. The magnitude and cumulative duration of loss resulted in more severe pathologies.
