Egg production rates of the copepod Calanus marshallae in relation to seasonal and interannual variations in microplankton biomass and species composition in the coastal upwelling zone off Oregon, USA

Calanus marshallae egg production rates (EPRs) were highest in spring and winter.

EPRs were high in winter and spring when ciliates were abundant.

Some diatom blooms in summer resulted in high EPRs; others produced low EPRs.

Diatom species richness in summer had a positive effect on high EPR.

During some mono-specific blooms, EPRs were depressed.
