The influence of individual tree species can be detected in the topsoil even within a mixed stand; C. betulus performed better than other species in improving soil fertility due to good quality of litter; Soil organisms activities varied widely according to the seasonal pattern; Soil biological properties were more affected by variations in litter and soil C and N and available nutrients.
