Here we present the first FBN9 immunolectin overexpressing transgenic Anopheles gambiae. Fatbody-mediated FBN9 defenses are Plasmodium species-specific. Bloodmeal inducible FBN9 overexpression in the mosquito fatbody results in greater resistance to bacterial infection. Bloodmeal inducible FBN9 overexpression in the mosquito fatbody upon Plasmodium infection results in increased longevity.
