The longitudinal growth of twinned variants of boron-rich nanowires is unequal. This phenomenon forms contrast to the cases in metallic fivefold twinned nanowires. High density of microtwins is believed to be the cause of such unequal behavior. The growth of twin variants follows a twin-plane-reentrant-edge (TPRE) mechanism.
