We study the effect of fire on a model ecosystem of a single tree and animal species. We find that trees and animals react differently to fire. Frequent fires are small; they spare trees but devastate animals. Rare fires are large; they destroy trees but spare animals. Power law hypothesis not justified, different mechanisms for small and large fires.
