Two novel splicing variants of human PDYN mRNA have been identified. A novel ∆ SP-PDYN splicing variant is mostly expressed in human striatum. ∆ SP-PDYN protein lacks a fragment of signal peptide (SP). ∆ SP-PDYN is not processed to mature dynorphins but targeted to the cell nuclei in a model cellular system. Unprocessed, likely ∆ SP-PDYN is localized in neuronal nuclei in human striatum.
