Concept mapping as an approach for expert-guided model building: The example of health literacy

文摘
By means of concept mapping a model of health literacy was defined, providing insight into the structure of this construct. The model differentiates advanced and basic skills/prerequisites. A questionnaire for assessing the advanced skills was developed, replicated and cross-validated in different samples. The structural model is consistent with the theory of self-determination (Ryan & Deci, 2000). Concept mapping proved to be a highly useful tool to explore a so far vaguely defined domain.
