Impact of stocking cultured Japanese flounder on wild fish growth was assessed. The model simulation revealed that released fish consumed less than 15% of prey production. Surplus prey production was usually sufficient to support stocking of hatchery reared fish. Food-based carrying capacity can be reached when an exceptionally strong year class of wild fish occurs.
