Low-cost replacement of the standard Pt counter electrode for DSSCs is reported.

Low-temperature ex situ preparation of PPy/MWCNT CEs for DSSCs was used.

PPy/MWCNT CE adhesion and cohesion forces are increased by the presence of MWCNTs.

Confirmation of PPy-MWCNT binding was carried out by XPS and FTIR.

PPy/MWCNT CE with an optimal 70:30 ratio reaches a lower Rct than the standard Pt CE.
