Direct and indirect photodegradation pathways of cytostatic drugs under UV germicidal irradiation: Process kinetics and influences of water matrix species and oxidant dosing

The photodegradation kinetics of cytostatic drugs was investigated. The effects of DOM, HCO3−, NO3−, Cl−, and SO42− were evaluated. The generated transformation by-products of cytostatic drugs were identified. SO4− selectively attacks certain functional groups of chemicals by electron transfer. UV with oxidant dosing was significantly more effective for chemical degradation.
