Ventral pallidum deep brain stimulation at 50 Hz (VP-DBS) had potent efficacy against forebrain and brainstem behavioral seizures in pilocarpine-treated rats.
VP-DBS attenuated epileptiform activity in hippocampal, but not primary somatosensory cortex.
Electrical stimulation excited ventral pallidal neuron activity in vitro and reduced substantia nigra reticulata and superior colliculus activity in vivo.
Acute or chronic VP-DBS did not alter gross motor function or arousal state.
